First and foremost, our GSPs are a major part of our life.  Although we aren’t breeders or trainers by profession
(unfortunately, we have “real” jobs), the quality of our dogs and their results speak for themselves.  We believe that
the only way a dog can reach its full potential either as a field dog or a well-adjusted family pet is to become part
of the fabric of your lifestyle.  We give our dogs as much personal attention as working class people can give and
we overdose them with love, affection, and care.  Yes, they are in essence, our “children.”

We pride ourselves on the fact that we pretty much do all of our obedience and field training on our own –
occasionally turning to professional trainers to learn more advanced handling techniques, evaluate the
development of our dogs, or help us troubleshoot a training problem.  We exercise our dogs regularly and ingrain
obedience reinforcement into the daily lives of the dogs.  We also take time two to four times per week to work our
dogs in the field at training grounds near our home.  We’re living proof that “average suburbanite” dog owners
can train, develop, and enjoy a top quality gun dog if they set their mind to it.

We thoroughly enjoy testing our dogs in NAVHDA and AKC Hunt Tests.  However, it’s hunting upland game birds
with our Shorthairs that is the pinnacle of enjoyment with our dogs.  Most notably, we love chasing the wily
Bonasa Umbellus – the Ruffed Grouse in Northern Wisconsin.  For us, there are few things more thrilling than
having a well-trained pointing dog cooperate with you to successfully bag “The King of America’s Game Birds.”
We chose the name “Bonasa Flats Kennels” because of our love for the Ruffed Grouse, the wild beauty of their
habitat, and our desire to own and train top quality grouse dogs.

Bottom Line:
Well-bred and properly trained German Shorthaired Pointers are a thrill to hunt with and we’re dedicated to
training, developing, and hunting with our GSPs.
