Hunting Pictures & Tales
November 2004 - Another First Season Ruff
Boon got a good lesson with this grouse.  He was getting birdy as we hunted a logging
road in Florence County, WI through some older aspen bordering an open tag alder
patch.  He had a nice stop-to-flush when the first three grouse went out through the
cover on a hard left.  I then missed the fourth as it gave me a hard right across the road.
With just one shell left in the gun, this fifth bird made a fatal mistake by going straight
away down the road.  That was the biggest covey we found in a down year & it was nice
to see him hold still for all that hub-bub - probably scared the crap out of him actually.
