October 2006 - Feelin' Lucky
Call me a pragmatist, but usually my choice for grouse and woodcock is a fast-shooting
Benelli Montefeltro 20-gauge pushing 7 1/2 shot down a 24" tube and out a cylinder
choke at 1300 fps.  But when my lovely and thoughtful bride-to-be bought this Ruger
Red Label 28-gauge for "us," I just had to field test it over Belle.  It worked OK.  We got a
limit of woodcock but only one grouse that afternoon.  Just kidding!  It's a great piece
and a 28 makes a fantastic grouse gun - no doubt about it.  I wish I still owned that
little Red Label....
