Hunting Pictures & Tales
November 2005 - Easy??
At the risk of sounding really, really pompous, I have to say that it didn't take Boon and
I long to experience bird hunting success on our first trip to No Dak for pheasants.  A
great day on ruffed grouse for us goes something like this... you bag one early in the
day, then you put on an ass-load of miles to pop your second grouse sometime around
lunch, and then you get lucky one last time before the sun goes down.  Our first hunt
for wild pheasants was quite different than that.  The first rooster hit the turf in about
10 minutes and the groups' three bag limits were filled by noon.  That must mean I've
got some great dogs and I'm a helluva hunter!  HARDLY!  That's just being lucky and
putting it all together in that wingshooter's paradise called North Dakota.  Boon and I
thought we died and went to Heaven!  And we feel that way every time we have the
privilege to "hunt 'em up" out West...
