| November 2006 - A New Mixed Bag Until North Dakota got under my skin, my idea of a "mixed bag" was grouse and woodcock. Needless to say that No Dak really turned on its charm when Belle produced not only a couple of dandy roosters, but then pointed my first sharptail. And since then, I found myself pretty engrossed with this different kind of grouse. Especially on days when the tight cover and the ruffs get the best of me. Somehow a dose of humility in the Wisconsin grouse coverts make me long for those staggered covey flushes on those treeless prairies. Go figure... |
